Truck Crash in Eastern Afghanistan Kills Eighteen Returning Migrants

(MENAFN) At least 18 people were killed and 30 others injured when a truck transporting Afghan returnees overturned in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday, according to local security officials cited in reports.

The crash took place in the Sorkhakan area of Laghman Province during the morning hours. Authorities said the vehicle was carrying Afghans who had recently returned to the country when it overturned, trapping and injuring multiple passengers.

Emergency responders, along with local residents, rushed to the scene to assist victims and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities. Several of the wounded were reported to be in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could increase.

Officials said the cause of the accident has not yet been determined and that an investigation has been launched. Preliminary information cited by security sources suggested the truck may have been overcrowded at the time of the crash.
