Watch for shifting traffic on the I-25/US 50B Interchange project

Pueblo — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contractor partner, SEMA Construction, will complete a series of traffic shifts on the Interstate 25 and US Highway 50B Interchange project through October and November. Crews will move the northbound I-25 off-ramp to 29th Street into a new configuration, shift US 50B onto the new bridges over Fountain Creek and the Union Pacific Railroad, and shift northbound I-25 traffic to the west.

Traffic shifts

Traffic shift 1 - Northbound I-25 Off-Ramp to 29th Street and Westbound US 50B

  • When: Friday, Oct. 23, 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
  • What:
    • Northbound I-25 Off-Ramp to 29th Street: Crews will permanently shift the northbound I-25 off-ramp to 29th Street to the south. Motorists heading to 29th Street will need to exit northbound I-25 sooner than usual. Both eastbound US 50B traffic and 29th Street traffic will now use the same off-ramp, just south of the new bridges. 29th Street traffic will stay right and travel along the northbound bypass road to access 29th Street. Eastbound US 50B traffic will stay to the left.
    • Westbound US 50B Traffic: Crews will shift westbound US 50B traffic onto the new bridges over Fountain Creek and the Union Pacific Railroad as they travel west from Bonforte Boulevard/Hudson Avenue. For access onto northbound I-25, motorists will use a newly constructed on-ramp just north of the current 29th Street off-ramp.

Traffic Impacts

Traffic shift 1 - Northbound I-25 Off-Ramp to 29th Street and Westbound US 50B

  • Overnight Friday, Oct. 23, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., crews will require the following closures (refer to the maps below).
    • The northbound I-25 off-ramps to US 50B and 29th Street will be closed.
    • For access to 29th Street, continue on northbound I-25, use the US 50A/CO 47 off-ramp, travel east on CO 47 (Exit 101), and then south on Dillon Drive to 29th Street.
    • For access to US 50B, continue on northbound I-25, use the US 50A/CO 47 off-ramp and travel east on CO 47 (Exit 101) to US 50B.
  • Westbound US 50B will be closed between Bonforte Boulevard/Hudson Avenue and I-25. The westbound US 50B on-ramp to northbound I-25 will also be closed (refer to the maps below).

Detour Routes:

Travel west on CO 47 and use the US 50A/CO 47 on-ramp to northbound I-25 (Exit 101)

For access to US 50B, continue on northbound I-25, use the US 50A/CO 47 off-ramp and travel east on CO 47 (Exit 101) to US 50B

For access to 29th Street, continue on northbound I-25, use the US 50A/CO 47 off-ramp, travel east on CO 47 (Exit 101), and then south on Dillon Drive to 29th Street.

Upcoming Northbound I-25 Closures for Bridge Work

In mid-November, crews will require closures of northbound I-25 as crews install bridge girders, or bridge beams, over I-25 travel lanes. Crews will install 22 girders, spanning 1,643 linear feet, which is equal to 1.5 Eiffel Towers.

During these northbound I-25 closures, motorists will funnel into one lane and detour around the closure using the new northbound I-25 bypass road to the east of I-25 between Mineral Palace Park and 29th Street.

Stay tuned to our weekly project updates for more information on this upcoming work and associated impacts.

Project Information

Work on the $114 million I-25/US 50B Interchange project began in December 2024. During construction, crews will build five new bridge structures, retaining and noise walls, roadway and ramp reconstruction, embankment, safety improvements, drainage and erosion control. Once complete, the interchange will be located just north of the current interchange and will operate as a diverging diamond interchange to improve drivability and provide safer driving conditions for motorists. The project is scheduled for completion in early summer 2027.
